With water leaks in the rear cargo area and tailgate, the stainless clad steel skid strips get rusted from the wet carpet. Eventually they just fall apart - mostly at the screw holes where the rust can proliferate.
Even with my vast network of parts sources, the few strips I do find are extremely expensive. So I take original used strips, wire brush the rust on the rear, treat it with rust converter and spray it with aluminum Rustoleum paint.
They look good again and are properly protected from rust.And, they come with new non-rusting stainless steel screws. This is the correct way.
